The neutral, West African–owned platform that connects the region’s governments, universities, and innovators — so AI here is built, governed, and led by the region itself.
Our story
It started with a simple observation.
Across West Africa, there is no shortage of talent, and no shortage of ambition for AI. What has been missing is connection — between a student in one country and the opportunity in another, between a national strategy and the programme that would make it real, between fifteen governments solving the same problems alone.
WAAII exists to close that distance. Not to build everything itself, and not to compete with the institutions already doing the work — but to help them move together.

WAAII is a registered, non-commercial platform. It does not compete with its partners, never replaces national sovereignty, and keeps its funding diversified so no single funder holds more than 30%.
